counselingpsychotherapy anxiety depressionAs professionals in the field of mental and behavioral health we are trained to help you with a wide array of daily life and mental health issues (depression and anxiety, addictions, stress, women’s issues, life transitions, developmental or life crisis, relationships, trauma etc). However and in order to provide a better service, we have developed some clinical specialties through post-graduate trainings, years of work experience, and personal research. We specialize in:

Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating:

I treat people with full diagnoses of anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder as well as people with general food/weight concerns. The majority of people with eating problems do not fit the category of anorexia or bulimia nervosa (1% to 5% of the general population). However, we know that many people struggle with food and body image issues. If you are constantly trying to control your weight by dieting regularly, overeat or starve based on your emotions, are never content with your body… you can benefit from psychotherapy. I can help you reinvent your relationship with food and yourself. It is not what you are eating but what is eating you. I treat the full range of food/eating concerns in adolescents, adults, male and females. Read more…

Couples & Relationships:

Research shows that relationships are the main source of happiness or pain in people’s lives. Let’s take care of them. Dating, pre-marital & couples, parenting, family relationships as well as challenges in the workplace. We need to learn certain skills and figure out our own role and triggers in relationships in order to establish healthy connections. I also specialize in inter-racial marriages since I believe people from different cultures need extra support in building a common ground relationship and in taking full advantage of creating a richer life, a great opportunity that coming from different background embraces. Pregnancy, Post-Partum & Maternity:

Maternity is a wonderful thing but also a period of huge change and of high risk for the onset of mood disorders. For this reason, in the same way that we take care of the physical health of mother and baby it is important to check and maintain emotional health of both. Check with me and I will help you make this journey easier, with the support that you need to fully enjoy this period of your life. If you aren’t sure if what you are experiencing is the babies’ blues or a more serious condition, do not wait. Get help! Read more…

Depression & Anxiety:

Main cause people look for psychological help. Many times people go undiagnosed because they have been feeling like this for a long-time. It is never late to get treatment. Whether depression/anxiety causes stress in other areas of our lives or stress causes depression/anxiety is an often debated question. What is clear is that biology and environment are linked when considering the causes of depression/anxiety. Treatment should address both. Treatment for depression & anxiety is one with the highest success rate. Don’t go untreated. Read more….

Grief & Loss:

Death is the main cause of grief but not the only one. Grief can be the main cause of pain in people’s life if untreated and many times it goes undiagnosed. Grief counseling is based on specific principles. You need an expert on the topic. I work at the Wendt Center for Grief & Loss in Washington, DC where we specialize in grief and loss. Read more…

Life Transitions & Personal Growth:

Marriage, a new teacher, going to college, a new job, moving to a new city, the birth of a child… these are all changes that bring good things into our lives and are part of the natural process of life. However, and from personal experience, I know that change does not go smoothly all the time. Especially when circumstances are hard, it is difficult for us to understand or even accept the role of change in our lives. I can help you incorporate change into your life and grow with it. “Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.”

Recovering from a traumatic experience requires that the painful emotions be thoroughly processed. Trauma feelings cannot be repressed or forgotten. If they are not dealt with directly, the distressing feelings and troubling events replay over and over in the course of a lifetime, creating a condition known as post-traumatic stress disorder or they haunt you for the rest of your life.

We can help you to mobilize your inner resources and overcome your experiences. Depression and trauma do not improve in isolation. Therefore, to fix them you have to be connected to others. So, we can provide you with the support you need during this courageous step in your life.

A type of change with its own nuances. The same as with grief, acculturation has its own peculiarities and losses. You would need somebody that understands and has experience with the stages and therapeutic implications that this process involves. So, having been there myself I can offer you the help that you need to make a good decision for you and make this journey more manageable.

Counseling doesn’t only help you to deal with your problems but it is particularly helpful if you want to enhance your life or relationships!
